We’re passionate about wine, passionate about the growers we work with and passionate about quality.
We believe that good wine shouldn’t cost the earth.
Lindsay Talas,
Terra Organica co-founder
After decades leading wine buying and development for major supermarkets, we realised there was still a lack of affordable, good quality organic wine on the shelves. Yes, it could be found but it was often disappointingly poor in quality, or beyond the reach of most pockets. No-one was single-mindedly searching out the best organic wines from around the world for people to enjoy.
So, in 2016, we launched Terra Organica to do just that. Today, our mission is the same. We scour the globe to find producers who share our passion for organic growing and winemaking, showcasing them in our exclusive Terra Organica range. These are usually independent wineries or family run businesses with generations of experience and winemakers who understand how to work with nature, not against it.
The result is a boutique range of top quality organic wines that don’t cost the earth.
Growing grapes organically is a labour of love.
Sometimes, it feels like wine drinkers are in a secret club. Grape varieties, terroir, vintages … it’s easy to feel wrong-footed. At Terra Organica, we do this work for you. Rest assured that every single bottle in our range meets our stringent quality and ethical standards.
Here’s what sets our producers apart.
Our producers haven’t jumped on the organic bandwagon, they have been growing organically for years. From a family run estate in the heart of Rioja to the first Argentinian winery to plant organic, we champion these passionate pioneers who care about how their wine is produced.
Just as they will not compromise on quality, so our growers will not compromise on sustainability either. From funding community projects to investing in solar power and working with suppliers on reducing glass weight, Terra Organica is proud to see the incredible work our producers are doing to make a difference to the industry, and the world.
Wine is made to be enjoyed. That’s why we visit our growers (we don’t work with anyone we’ve not met), walk in the vineyards, taste the grapes, work collaboratively to achieve the perfect finished product. When you pour a Terra Organica wine, you know it’s been lovingly made by people who put quality first, not mass market volume.
Walk through an organic vineyard and it’ll be teeming with wildlife. That’s because no weed killers, synthetic fertilisers or pesticides are used. Instead, nature does the job with a host of animals and insects creating biodiversity, and the occasional sheep keeping the weeds under control.
Once the grapes are harvested, the winemaking process also follows strict organic controls. Traditional, non-organic wine can have high levels of sulphites to preserve it, and sometimes animal products are used to clarify the wine. Our organic wines do not contain high levels of sulphites, nor do they use animal products to clarify the wine, meaning they are vegan-friendly too.
While this approach is clearly better for the planet, does it make the wine taste better?
We believe it does.
Grapes grown without artificial chemicals are as nature intended. Grapes are tended by hand, harvested at absolute peak ripeness and bring all their sun-drenched flavour straight to the glass. Organic growing is harder and riskier, but the result tastes beautiful.
Terra Organica is proud to be a member of 1% for the Planet. Their belief is that companies who profit from resources they take from the earth, should protect those resources.
We give 1% of our turnover each year to the organisation’s approved non-profit partners, standing shoulder to shoulder with 3,000 other global businesses who want to protect the future of our planet.
